REVIEW OF THE YEAR with It’s Nice That, 2018

Review of the Year is It's Nice That's annual round up, reflecting on the year just gone. For 2018, the concept was to capture the process of compiling an annual in the print production phase, conveyed through stacks of paper and decorated with print room paraphernalia. This concept was an evolution from previous years' treatments, bringing in the physicality of paper, partnered with bright colours and featuring the article imagery at the forefront. My main role within this project was to concept and execute a typographic treatment for the imagery titles, taking into account the positioning of previous years. For this treatment, we also wanted the typography to be an evolution; feeling in the same vein as previous years but with a fresh perspective. The introduction of coloured type was used to bring a vibrancy to the imagery in a different way to previous years. The typeface, Brik, by Burntype, was also chosen to feel in the same vein as previous years; being a bold, slab and sans-serif, but with enough character that it felt like a new take on the series. We commissioned the 3D artist Anton Hjertstedt to create the renders that brought these ideas to life.
